Pangration is a martial art which was considered to be one of the most necessary fighting methods in ancient Europe. “Pangration” literally means "to gain the complete upper hand". In ancient Greece, Pangration was sometimes referred to as “complete fight” and “perfect combat”. In ancient times, Pangration was recognized as very practical and popularized as it used both wrestling and boxing techniques as well as kicking. It was included in the Olympic events in 648 BC and became an indispensable major sports event in ancient Greece and Rome. One of the important features of the sports event, which consists of hundreds of grips and counterattack movements, is that the rules and regulations were so formulated as to provide the most adequate protection for the players. Today's Pangration is being developed by the World Pangration Athlima Federation founded in 2002 and hundreds of international and national regional organizations.
